Our Mission

FullFlock aims to help prevent avian flu outbreaks amongst poultry: a problem that has led to over 57 million dead birds and incurred an estimated >$3 billion in losses during the current outbreak alone. We will do so through a chicken feed that leverages a potent, plant-based, cost-efficient antiviral protein.

Avian Flu Background

The Avian flu is caused by influenza Type A viruses and the most common strains are H5N1 and H7N9. The virus spreads amongst both wild birds and poultry, and when analyzing the transmission of avian flu, the initial site of viral replication is predominantly the intestinal epithelial cells. Upon infection, the sick birds excrete contaminated feces which go on to infect other birds. Highly pathogenic strains spread extremely quickly, killing 90% to 100% of chickens within 48 hours according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Highlighting Inhumane Culling Methods

Common culling methods include ventilation shutdown where the birds die by heat stroke or suffocation with foam, highlighting the inhumanity of ongoing practices while emphasizing the importance of a preventative solution.
